That's it - I'm off!

A bit of a break of me. I'm off down under!

...a breakdown is a a breakout!

I spent the last ten days mourning. I sank when I saw my rushes for a film I directed. The five min. was shot on 16mm. My first ever at the film school...
I thought i had failed until i read the posting on what Mighella said.

"Why do we do all this? Why tell stories? Cinema and storytelling is there to smash the jail that we've put ourselves in."

My film had minimal dialouges, the characters used two languages- Telugu and Bengali and i had intentionally taken non actors. Nothing 'melo - dramatic' happens in the film. I also did not use any inserts. When my friends saw the rough cut, they walked out in silence.

I woke up today morning with a strange energy... the film i made presented what i belived in. I might have failed at the craft. But it was a story that i wanted to tell. And i will continue telling the stories i think need to be told and shared.

I go back to make another film. this time i am better prepared for the anxieties!

All the best for it T.M. What is that thing called the 'filmmakers craft'? Why its only working out the best way to tell the story we want tell. Maybe you should have used more dialogue, maybe not. As long as you get increasingly clearon what you are trying to say then you can get increasingly better at saying it!

Yes. I think I need to pause before I jump on to my next film. I am reading Robert McKee's Story. He has been insightful in pointing out what are the essential elements of screenplay writing( exactly where I had gone wrong in my last film!)
Is there any other book you recommend?
